About Me
Liz Cheney, owner and founder of Peak Potential Personal Development
Hi, I’m Liz.
I’m a licensed professional counselor (LPC), board certified in neurofeedback (BCN), a mom of two, and I’m passionate about helping you maximize your peak potential.
After watching neurofeedback transform my son’s life—and as a result, my whole family—I knew that I wanted to use this powerful, non-invasive tool to help as many other people and families as I could. With my listening ear and innate curiosity, I can’t wait to help you overcome whatever challenge you are facing!
A bit of my story . . .
I have always had a passion to help others reach their potential. For years, I harnessed this passion through my work as a teacher. In the classroom, I saw that so many families were looking for ways to help their children succeed and reach their potential but lacked effective tools to achieve this goal.
My own son struggled with ADHD, anxiety, and learning issues, which made school frustrating and disheartening. When I heard about neurofeedback—a non-invasive, drug-free approach to address his areas of struggle—I knew I needed to give it a try. Besides the low risk and high reward, I was thrilled to learn there were years of research supporting the efficacy of this technology.
One day, my son came home from a neurofeedback session and asked me why I hadn’t done this for him sooner. He was a young teenager at this point and initially hadn’t been excited to try this new thing, but when he was able to recognize the change in himself, I was elated. I knew this was going to change his life. Having brain maps confirm the change in his brain and his increased efficiency was just the cherry on top.
My next question was whether or not these changes would be permanent. It turns out that they were, for the most part, because his brain was trained to the point that new connections were sufficiently created and established.
After seeing how neurofeedback changed my son’s life trajectory, it became my goal to spread the word that there is a safe and effective alternative to help people reach their potential. I decided to embark on a different path to helping children and adults succeed and began studies to earn my second master’s degree in professional counseling and to become a certified neurofeedback provider. With years of experience helping families and children overcome the stress, strain, and unrelenting competitive nature of our school system, I am so grateful to have found a new tool to support families and provide relief to children struggling with a brain that is not operating at its peak potential. My biggest surprise, though, was to find out how much this also helps people of all ages! Who wouldn’t benefit from less stress, better sleep, improved mood and cognitive performance?
I am a native Virginian, and live in Haymarket, VA with my husband, two sons, and our dog Holly. I have over 20 years of experience as a primary school teacher and have been a certified teacher since 1996. I am also a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and have board certification in neurofeedback (BCN). But the most important thing to know about me is that I am genuinely passionate about learning and helping others reach their peak potential!
